War Is Like a Drug

War is like a drug to some politicians.
Once they get a taste of it two things can happen.
                Neither of them good.
On the one hand the politician may become addicted to it and need it.  In this case the politician finds it a tool that is very easy to use.  Ease of use and appreciation of what they consider to be benefits – that is – removal of responsibility, distraction from other problems and a bizarre type of prestige also referred to as fear leads this politician to believe they have done something good.
The idea that their actions lead to horrendous consequences never seems to be clear to them though it is obvious to dispassionate observers.
On the other hand the politician may become inured to it.  That is resistant to its effects.  This sort of politician may have started off believing that war is bad may find that a little war might be okay.  As time goes on their idea of war and conflict may become confused and again war become little more than an easy to use option.
Just another choice in an ever widening range of responses to chaotic events.
In either case in today’s modern world the politician that bows to the present custom of believing that was is a tidy, little business or that it is ever limited in scope has wandered outside of the scope of what we call sanity.
These politicians have thus entered a world where words have no true meaning.
