Microsoft Dog Food
What is going on at Microsoft?
They were supposed to be the leaders in innovation.
If broken up we would see innovation, economy of scale, competition and increased security. It will not be forced from the outside.
After initial growth and the wealth creation it performed it is now beyond its prime but able to suppress competition.
It has so much cash that even of a perceived threat to its technology appears it can easily buy out the company.
We can see the future of Microsoft embedded in its internal philosophy.
Is it like GE’s motto, ‘We Bring Good Things To Life’?
No.
Their core set of ideals can best be illustrated by this culture statement from within Microsoft, “About Early Technology Adoption (Dogfooding)”.
They refer to something common within their ranks that if you make dog food, then it should be good enough for you to eat it and like it and feed it to your family.
No kidding.
Microsoft is trading at $57.12 today. It has a market capitalization of approximately 314 billion dollars. It’s big.
To summarize. Their internal quality and development philosophy references dog food. Its products, it seems, are a regurgitation of same products or products they have consumed themselves with many of the same features merely moved around to new places or given more names seems to be, rather than the image of a proud dog food manufacturer ladling out dog food to his wife more that of a dog eating its own vomit.
